For a test to be valid, it must be secure. As university customers attest, interview scores consistently reflect exchange visitor English ability once they arrive on campus. Critical elements of interview security include:
- Real-time free response to open-ended questions, simulating real-to-life conversation
- Facial recognition software ensuring test-taker identity
Remote proctoring and scoring by a certified human rater (1:1 proctor to test-taker ration)
Randomized questions from an extensive question bank
Innovative test item types used to benchmark ability across all responses
The English3 Interview is a targeted evaluation of the applicant’s ability to function on a day-to-day basis and to participate in their program—primarily evaluating speaking and listening proficiency. Our rubric does provide concordance with the Common European Framework for speaking skills and correlation to TOEFL and IELTS. For a comprehensive English assessment with TOEFL and IELTS concordance for speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills, please see the English3 Proficiency Test (E3PT).
Human raters score the interview video according to our proprietary rubric, which is aligned to the CEFR and designed specifically for J-1 exchange visitors.
